Are you a quitter or a goal getter?

Almost everyone begins the year with a goal they want to achieve before the year ends. Most people begin the year very excited about the goals they want to achieve but as soon as they are confronted with obstacles whether big or small, the excitement suddenly begins to die down. We start to think we can’t-do it or that we probably set a goal that was too big for us to handle.

We are at the time of the year when most people have given up on the goals they set out to achieve because they are confronted with obstacles they never even thought of. Most of us no longer believe in ourselves not to talk of even believing in our goals. The truth is, you are capable of much more than you can imagine. What is holding you back is actually the way you go about achieving your goal. It is thus not enough to set a goal, there needs to be a strategy in place to accomplish that goal so that you don’t keep setting goals that you cannot achieve.

The following tips will help you work at achieving your goals even when you are confronted with challenges:

  1. Believe in yourself

One of the biggest reasons why most people don’t achieve their goals is because they don’t believe in themselves. In fact, some people set goals that they don’t even believe in. In the book, SEAL, a story is told of Jesse Itzler who was asked how many push-ups he could do. He said he could do just eight but his trainer who was a navy seal told him he believed he could do 100 push-ups. Jesse didn’t believe him but his trainer encouraged him and helped him achieve it. This story is a pointer to the fact that we can achieve anything we want if we just push ourselves a little harder. All we need to do is go the extra mile to achieve our goals.

A lot of people do not know how much potential they carry. They also do not have the focus to continue and as such just stop moving on as soon as they are faced with challenges.

  1. Just Start and Persist

You may never achieve your goals if all you do is stare at them or think about all the obstacles preventing you from achieving those goals. You need to start working on your goals and work persistently at achieving them. When you set out to do something and you actually do it, only then will you find true happiness.

  1. Understand why you need to achieve your goals

As human beings, we can be easily swayed by how we feel. Changes, especially in form of obstacles and challenges, can also make us sway. The list of new resolutions that never become reality is a pointer to this fact. This is why you need something strong enough to push you towards achieving your goals. Understanding the importance of your goals is a force that can push to achieve your goals irrespective of challenges or obstacles.

  1. Pain is a part of the goal achievement process

When you want to achieve something, it is natural to fail or not enjoy doing it at first. You really shouldn’t worry about this at all. Just keep going. It is normal to have obstacles and challenges. They are in fact part of the process of achieving your goals.

  1. Focus

It is often said that where focus goes, energy flows. A mind focused on achieving a goal will find it quite easy to deal with distractions. In today’s world, there are a lot of things that could distract us. Social media is, in fact, a major distractor for most people. If we can shut off all distractions and focus on achieving our goals, we will see ourselves achieving our goals faster than we imagined.

As 2017 runs to an end very fast, it would be nice to take out time to review your goals, check how many of them you have achieved and how many have not been achieved. Make up your mind to use all the tips listed above in achieving all the goals that are yet to be accomplished.
